Premier League Preview Round 6 – Pressure On for Jose Mourinho

With the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool facing teams down the bottom end of the Premier League table, Manchester United already find themselves under pressure in the title race.  Defeat at Watford last weekend, leaves them 6 points behind Pep Guardiola’s City team, who are top of the table.  Two defeats in a row in the Premier League, leaves Manchester United vulnerable and Jose Mourinho clearly has work to do, in finding the best shape and system for his team.  This will be music to Leicester City’s ears, who make the trip to Old Trafford in the early kick-off on Saturday.  Leicester picked up a point at the Theatre of Dreams last season and could do the same again this season.  Manchester United vs Leicester City is 5.25 with Bet365, to finish as a draw, with both teams to score.

Chelsea travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on Saturday evening, having not lost to the Gunners in the Premier League in their previous nine meetings, stretching back to 2012.  Furthermore, in 5 of the last 6 Premier League games, there have been under 2.5 goals scored.  Chelsea need to respond after their defeat to Liverpool and are well worth backing in this match.

Manchester United vs Leicester City

This is the early kick off in the Premier League this week and Jose Mourinho will be hoping his players had a good night’s sleep, as they really need to get their league campaign back on track and quickly.  However, Leicester are going to be no pushover and Claudio Ranieri’s team have started to show signs of the form which won them the title last season.  As things stand, this match could easily go either way.

Bournemouth vs Everton

Bournemouth faced the daunting task of playing at the Etihad last weekend and lost 4-0 to Manchester City, a result which sees them come into this match hovering above the relegation zone.  Everton on the other hand, have been really enjoying life under Ronald Koeman this season and the confidence is starting to flow at Goodison Park.  Everton have never lost against Bournemouth and this looks a good bet for an away win.

Liverpool vs Hull City

Having tasted defeat at Burnley in their second match of the Premier League season, Liverpool have responded very strongly.  The 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur, was followed by an excellent 4-1 win over Leicester City and an even more impressive 2-1 victory against Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge.  In contrast Hull have picked up just 1 point from the last possible 9 and conceded 4 goals at home to Arsenal last time out.  There looks to be only winner in this game.

Middlesbrough vs Tottenham Hotspur

Aitor Karanka’s Middlesbrough started the season brightly but have begun to struggle with life in the Premier League.  Having picked up 4 points out of the first 6, Boro have only won 1 point from the last possible 9, a run which has seen them drop to 13^th in the Premier League table.  Tottenham remain unbeaten in the league this season and have performed well away from home, picking up a point at Everton and defeating Stoke City 4-0.  Tottenham just have the edge in this game.

Stoke City vs West Bromwich Albion

Stoke have endured a terrible start to the 2016/17 Premier League season and find themselves bottom, with just 1 point.  Mark Hughes’ team are yet to win a league game, with their only positive result coming at Stevenage in the League Cup.  West Brom, having started with a good win at Crystal Palace, had a slump, which saw them lose to Everton and Bournemouth plus draw 0-0 at home to Middlesbrough.  However, a positive 4-2 victory over West Ham last week, sees them come into this match with a little more belief.  That being said, Mark Hughes’ neck is on the line here and Stoke are due a good performance.

Sunderland vs Crystal Palace

Sunderland, along with Stoke, are the only team not to have tasted a victory in the Premier League this season.  With 4 defeats and 1 draw to their name coming into this match, the pressure is already on David Moyes, who needs to turn things around quickly at the Stadium of Light.  Crystal Palace, who started poorly, have turned things around in recent games, winning at Middlesbrough and 4-1 at home against Stoke.  Palace have a good recent record at Sunderland, winning 1 and drawing 2 of the last 3 and could come away with maximum points.

Swansea City vs Manchester City

This match is a tale of two teams who are going in opposite directions.  While Manchester City have looked sensational under Pep Guardiola, Swansea City have been struggling under Francesco Guidolin.  With just 1 point from their last 3 Premier League games, Swansea are going to have to turn in a special performance, to take anything from this game and at the moment, there is no sign of that happening.  Even though the price is low, there can be no other outcome to back than an away win.

Arsenal vs Chelsea

This is the pick of the weekend’s action in the Premier League, as the London rivals go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium.  As mentioned above, Chelsea have enjoyed a very good recent record against Arsenal and despite losing at home to Liverpool last time out in the Premier League, the talent is there for that run to continue.  Arsenal have not looked particularly impressive so far this season and with both teams not wanting to lose this one, it could easily end all square.

West Ham United vs Southampton

West Ham have endured a disappointing start to the season and Slaven Bilic will want to turn things around quickly.  However, the move to the Olympic Stadium seems to have caused problems, not only on the pitch but also in the stands.  Southampton, under Claude Puel, have also found life tough in the Premier League so far this season but managed to win their first game last weekend, at home to Swansea City.  West Ham can’t stop conceding goals at the moment and Southampton will look to take advantage of that, in what could be a difficult atmosphere for the home team.

Burnley vs Watford

The final match of Round 6 in the Premier League, sees Burnley entertain Watford at Turf Moor.  Burnley fans were hoping the 2-0 win over Liverpool, would spur their team on to great things but following that win, Sean Dyche’s men have only picked up 1 point, at home against Hull.  Watford meanwhile, have won their last 2 Premier League games, scoring 7 goals in the process against West Ham and Manchester United.  The confidence is with the away team but Burnley are undefeated in their last 2 games at home.
